Our
Core Values
At Abundant Life Church, our mission is guided by three core values, Encounter, Experience, Engage. These values shape everything we do as we seek to bring God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
Encounter His Presence
We believe everything begins with meeting God heart-to-heart in worship, prayer, and the Word. His presence transforms our lives and draws us closer to His heart.
Experience Community
Faith was never meant to be lived alone, so we create spaces where people can belong, grow, and be encouraged. In genuine relationships, we find strength, accountability, and joy.
Engage In Service
Serving others reflects the heart of Jesus and makes His love visible to the world. We use our time, gifts, and resources to meet needs, bless our city, and advance God’s Kingdom.
Our Beliefs
Our core beliefs shape our identity, guide our teaching, and unify us as a church. We invite you to explore our beliefs and see how they shape our faith and mission.
People who live and love in a christlike way
How we relate to “one another” is vital. How we treat “everyone” is essential.
People who focus on and follow the Word of God
Our basis for what we believe and do. Our final authority concerning all things.
People who partner and depend upon the Holy Spirit
We look to the Holy Spirit for instruction. We listen to the Holy Spirit for guidance. We depend upon the Holy for empowerment.

Our History
The story of Abundant Life began in October 1927, when a small group of believers gathered in the Cherry Street Dance Hall. Their hunger for God soon moved them into a storefront on Fourth Street, and by 1930 they purchased the former Trinity Methodist building at Sixth and Sycamore. Through the hardships of the Great Depression, this young congregation remained faithful, proclaiming God’s Word and slowly growing.
In the mid-1950s, a new vision took shape as members provided their own labor to build a brick church at Fifteenth and Eddy. Completed in 1957, the building stood as a symbol of dedication and sacrifice. In the late 1960s, the Charismatic Renewal swept across Grand Island. While many resisted, this church welcomed revival and in 1976 embraced a trans-denominational identity, adopting the name Abundant Life Christian Center. Rapid growth pushed services into schools, theaters, and even the Grand Island Senior High auditorium. After a tornado struck in 1980, the Grand Theatre became home until a permanent sanctuary opened on the city’s west edge in 1981.
From its earliest days, Abundant Life has carried a heart for missions. Teams have served Native American reservations, Gypsy communities, and international fields. In 1996, tragedy struck when Associate Pastor Jim Frew and three members gave their lives while ministering in Mexico. Even in sorrow, God’s faithfulness remained unshaken, and the mission continued with greater resolve.
In December 2015, the church stepped into a new chapter, separating from denominational ties to become an independent, non-denominational congregation. Over nearly a century, eleven Pastors have guided the church, each faithfully serving in their time. Today, under the leadership of Pastors Frank and Teresa Gordoa, Abundant Life continues its mission with Christ at the center.
Our values remain clear: To Encounter His Presence in every gathering, Experience Community that is genuine, welcoming, and life-giving & Engage in Service that blesses our city, our nation, and the world.
Through triumphs and trials, Abundant Life’s journey tells the same story: God has been faithful, and we remain committed to His mission—generation after generation.
